With a long-standing and successful career in hospitality as a foundation, Matt Gellert draws on his extensive experience in customer relationship management and front line customer service in his role as Business Development Manager of ISEC. Matt’s history also includes a background of business ownership, providing him with the ability to identify, assess and develop opportunities for growth.

A valuable addition to ISEC, Matt’s skills and entrepreneurship help maintain and build on existing relationships to deliver results whilst developing new avenues for business.

Q: What about ISEC and its people attracted you to the role?

A: I’ve known Tony Daou (CEO) and David Zaw (General Manager) for a number of years and have always followed the business. COVID brought on a new set of challenges for the business and watching the team work together to overcome the obstacles and create a strategy was exciting and inspiring. ISEC is also a premium brand that works with many prestigious brands and prides itself on customer service. I was also attracted to a company that is on a growth path. ISEC is now coming up to celebrating its 20th year in business. I think it is absolutely amazing that they have been in business that long and it’s a testament to the hard work they have put in over the years.

It’s an incredible opportunity to work for a company that cares for its team and their clients like family. Most of our clients are all long standing relationships. Trust is very important in this business.

Q: How has your background in hospitality prepared you for the role of Business Development Manager?

A: My background in hospitality has shown me the importance of relationships. Maintaining existing and developing new relationships is key to any successful business, especially hospitality. Looking at how to add value to the customer journey has also been at the core of my ambitions which I have been able to bring to the role.

Also having been on the client side of the business gives me a better understanding of what clients expect from us. The team looks at these areas closely as they are constantly looking at ways we can improve our services.

Being involved in my own businesses has also helped me develop strategies for growth and look for more opportunities to expand. One of the ways this is achieved is through networking and talking to potential clients and discussing what their needs are and looking for opportunities in new areas.

Q: Which one of ISEC’s values of TEAMWORK, TRUST, PROFESSIONALISM, RELIABILITY and PASSION resonates to you the most and why?

A: A lot of these values work hand in hand with each other which is why I think they are a great set of values for a business. Personally, for me it’s TEAMWORK. No one can do everything all on their own, many have tried and failed. Teamwork really does make the dream work!

Having come from a hospitality background, I can say that it is also an absolute team sport where everyone is working together and must rely on each other. There is a lot of encouragement at ISEC as everyone is working on the same team and toward a common goal.

Q: What motivates you at work?

A: Being part of a team knowing that people are relying on you and ensuring you aren’t letting anyone down is what motivates me. I also am motivated by ambitious people that are working towards a common goal.

Having a core set of values to abide by such as the ones at ISEC is also a motivation as they are also values that I personally align with. Working for a dedicated team of leaders is also very motivating. The team all have a lot of experience in different parts of the industry and have a lot to learn from and are all very hands on and connected to our clients.

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

A: I remember working for Merivale and the late Mr. John shared a quote that he was fond of:

“A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption of our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider of our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us the opportunity to do so.”

I’ll never forget reading that quote and thinking it was amazing.
